Competitions, gardening and feeling pooped!!

Well, this post comes to you after a busy weekend in my garden! I have been a bit under the weather (I have ME/CFS and depression) and my poor garden has been the one that took the brunt of my lack of energy in the last 2 years. Even though every bit of me now aches, and I am feeling utterly shattered, the work I have managed to do in the last three months, and especially this weekend has left me finally feeling proud of it once more! I still have a long way to go, but little bit, by little bit it is getting there. It made me realise, that writing is much the same as gardening has become for me now. I used to be a 'do a load when I have the time' girl. but now, because of my health problems I have to do little bits and often. For both my garden, and my writing I think that this has really helped me to create better books, and a more pleasant place to relax once I have done my writing for the day! I certainly get things finished so much quicker now!! An Aristocratic Awakening took me 6 years to finish, whereas A Date With Destiny only took about 6 months. I am hoping that my current book, for a competition submission, will be completed in just six weeks!! The key to this has been making sure that I focus on just one task at a time. I pop my phone on airplane mode, and I just write. I don't edit as I go along any more, I just keep going until I have the story complete. Then I edit - adding, cutting, moving and amending! Even this has gotten easier and I am much more focussed about it. I really hope that you will begin to see the fruits of my new approach, but obvioulsy it could be some time before I get to announce the release of my current book as it goes through the competition process. However, I will be working on a few shorts, like Coming Home so hopefully I will keep your addiction to Rosie Mac Romances fuelled!

Apoloigies for such an apalling lack of news!

So sorry to you all. I know you love your updates on upcoming books and love to get a peel into the inner workings of Rosie Mac Romance HQ! Life has been quite crazy, and between a large number of ghost writing gigs, holidays, and family chaos I have had little time to keep you updated.

I have been working on something a little new, and I really hope you are going to enjoy it. The Lovely and I spent a wonderful week in Carcassonne and the beautiful countryside all around it. I can firmly recommend it if you like mountains, medieval cities and lots to keep you busy! It made me really want to write a historical romance, so please give me some time to get it done as I really want to get my facts straight!

Coming up this week are the RITA's! These are the Oscars of the Romance Writing World, and for the very first time they will be streamed live! This is so exciting, as it means I get to spend an evening watching all the great ins this industry receive their just rewards. Romance is such a thriving genre, with so many truly talented writers. Brand New Book! Coming Home is finally here :-)

I am so ridiculously excited today! It is launch day for Coming Home!

Coming Home is a short story, and it is part of the Castle Cluny Romance Series.

Anna is a headstrong and bubbly girl, determined to prove to the world that she is good enough and that she can take care of herself. She finds herself stuck on the other side of the world with no money and no friends.

Jim is her childhood sweetheart and a solid and stable guy who arrives unexpectedly to save her!

Tom is the local stud. He is sexy and cheeky and just a little bit dangerous.

Who will she choose?

I need your help and brilliant eyes!

Okay everyone - I need your opinions!

I have some fantastic 'possible' covers for the re-launch of An Aristocratic Awakening.

I would love your feedback to help me choose which one of 8 to go for! So today, we start with these three. Please can you give me reasons why you lik bits, of you would put different bits in, or if there are bits you would remove!

Thanks you help is much appreciated! There will be a further 3 tomorrow, and then 2 on Monday to critique for me - then I will pick the top three, and you will have a week to post your favourite ;-)

Goals? Pah, who needs goals ....

It has been a really exciting few weeks for me. I have attended a couple of training sessions for the day job, and they have proved to be great fodder for the novels I'm working on- and even gave me some pretty incredible material for the already published Date with Destiny, which is making me consider a re-write to add all the amazing new stuff that is springing to mind!

This is the joy for me of self-publishing. It means that I have absolute control. If I find a new scene or number of them I can easily add them, and make my book better. Once a book is completed with a publisher that's it, nothing mroe to be done.

This dilemma made me think about the tings we shut of in life as 'finished' because someone else has sanctioned them so. I think it is why many people can feel a little flat when they achieve a long cherished goal - they simply don't feel it really is complete, someone else is telling them that it is so.

In business we are often told to set goals and targets, because the achievement of these makes you feel good, and begins the process of momentum. Personally I'm not entirely sure about this. I find I work much better without definite goals to achieve - because once I achieve goals I tend to take my foot of the pedal, and start letting things slip! Writing is the same for me. I recently tried to set myself the goal of writing a chapter a week, and an alternative of this was to write for an hour a day. I never managed to achieve these goals - yet when I took the pressure off of having to place a tick in a box at the end of the day/week I have managed to write some really great scenes (I hope you will love them too when I get these books finished and published for you!)

In my business I find it hard to set goals, because my goal is to help anyone who wants my help to have a better life. That excites me and gets me going - the idea of aiming for 1,000 twitter followers, or facebook likers, or 10 blog comments a week or whatever is tough for me to get excited about. It isn't as tangible as seeing a person blossom in front of me. In the same way as a writer, all you can do is hope that people will like what you are publishing, you rarely see the expression of joy, or the tears of compassion as they are actually reading that book.

My goal is to make people happier, healthier, to get them enjoying every aspect of life. It isn't to earn £100,000 a year (though I wouldn't say no to that!!), or to have certain number of clients on my books, or to know that 1,000 copies of my books have been sold. I live for the connection I have with people, with you my lovely readers.

So, let me know about you, I want to know what you want, what you dream of, what you hope to be.
Get in touch!
love always

Bob is a Furryhead!

It's been a pretty quiet week, just typing up some bits and pieces of scenes from my notebooks to see if anything was worth using. Not sure where these little poems would fit, and I don't think they are worth spending much time on revamping or re-crafting, so thought I would post them here for you all. Hope you enjoy!

The Green Chair – Alzheimers comes to stay

Clunk, splutter, giggle.
A mass of household goods,
a chest, a table, some cutlery
sliding on every bend.

Scrape, gasp, wriggle.
The pigtails bounce with glee,
a whole new world of discovery
contained in a blue work van.

 Murmur, shout, backfire.
Mum tells us to sit and behave,
the huge chair holds safe
as we all go along for the ride.

Screech, crunch, retire.
We make it safely home,
the blue van now stands empty,
Grandma now reigns over our home.

Self-Help!

An evening to reflect
A day that started bright
An afternoon of contentment
And an evening to relax.

 What will happen down
the line, who knows, but
giving our all will make
it surely like to succeed?

 Nose to the grind, pedal
to the metal, pull those
socks up, and show fine
fettle. Do what you do

The rest will follow, and
all your results will be
for whatever input has been.
Find your way to work

 And be, love and live,
the rest will follow your
lead to the joy and
greatness you have found.

 Bob is a Furryhead

Bob is a furry head. He
squeaks and tweaks.
Curly pawed he gambols
and twitches. Paws on
a sixpence, big-eyed
and playful. Bob is a
furry head. He growls and
he hisses, bites like they’re
kisses. Play lace, or chase
mouse. Bob is in charge
of our house.
